Chris Bisson's 'honest conversation' with Emmerdale bosses about soap exit

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson has spoken with show bosses about a possible exit.

Chris Bisson, 46, has played Jai Sharma in Emmerdale since 2009. The character’s recent storylines have seen allegations he has relapsed with his cocaine addiction.

He’s recently seen Laurel leave him as well. It is fair to say it has been a dramatic few months for Jai.

Ahead of these major storylines, Chris spoke to Emmerdale bosses to discuss whether the character had run its course. Speaking to OK!, Chris said: "There were conversations being had about where we had gone with the character. Very frank and honest conversations with me and the producer saying 'have we gone too far now and it is time to call it a day or do we redeem him?'.

"But we came to the conclusion that actually he wasn’t a bad character. He came in as a much nicer character and he did go off the rails but we have really pulled him back and that’s lovely to play."

We know there will be lots of comings and goings from Emmerdale when the soap celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year. We’ll have to see what the future holds for Chris and his character Jai.

Before joining Emmerdale, Chris played Vikram Desai in Coronation Street. The acting star appeared in Shameless and East is East.
