Chris and Rosie Ramsey's podcast proves lockdown hit as downloads reach staggering 25 million

North East humour is renowned around the world and local favourites Chris and Rosie Ramsey are clearly doing their bit, and more, to grow its reputation.

Comedian Chris and his social media star wife are seeing the popularity of their podcast Sh*gged. Married. Annoyed. rocket during lockdown with downloads now topping 25m worldwide.

The frank and funny podcast, which sees the couple chat from their South Shields living room about all aspects of everyday life, including relationships, arguments and parenting, is proving especially popular during the coronavirus crisis - when we are all in need of a boost of spirits - and it's growing by a staggering 700,000 'listens' week on week.

Since its launch early last year, the podcast has amassed fans from far and wide, consistently topping the downloads charts, and it seems that local humour translates just as well overseas.

Just before the coronavirus outbreak, the podcast had reached 18m downloads with its popularity sparking news of an arena tour of the country this coming autumn and also a book.

Extra dates added to Chris and Rosie Ramsey's podcast tour

The announcement generated such interest that an extra date had to be added to its Utilita Arena slot following a fast sell-out of tickets and the couple appears on course to break the record for the biggest live podcast.

Chris and Rosie, said in response to hitting the 25m milestone: “We are absolutely blown away that so many people are listening to and enjoying our podcasts whilst being simultaneously mortified that so many people are hearing the sometimes horrific things we say on the podcast!

"We didn’t think this would happen, but we’ve made our bed now so we have to sleep in it.”

The podcast is available on Acast, Apple and Spotify.
