Chou, Sayaka steal spotlight in Singapore

Top-seeded Taiwanese Chou Tien-chen claimed his second title of the year after beating compatriot Hsu Jen-hao in the men's singles final of the Singapore Open yesterday.

World No.7 Chou, who won the German Open in March, needed 43 minutes to beat Hsu 21-13, 21-13 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Japan's fifth seed Sayaka Takahashi claimed the women's singles title, overcoming China's No.7 seed Gao Fangjie 25-23, 21-14 in the showdown.

In the women's doubles final, Japan's Ayako Sakuramoto and Yukiko Takahata defeated compatriots Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida 16-21, 24-22, 21-13.

In the men's doubles decider, Indonesian fifth seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan proved too good for China's Ou Xuanyi and Ren Xiangyu 21-13, 21-19.

Malaysia's Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai stunned Olympic mixed doubles champions and top seeds Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia 21-19, 21-18 to win the title.

Thai players made it to three semi-finals -- Nitchaon Jindapol (women's singles), Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai (women's doubles) and Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai (mixed doubles) -- but all bowed out on Saturday.
