Chopper pilot dies in hospital after crash on Riverina station

Tributes have flowed on social media over the death of helicopter pilot Dan Slennett.

A helicopter pilot who died in hospital after a crash on a remote Riverina property has been remembered as a "good bloke" who will be dearly missed.

Thirty-four-year-old Dan Slennett suffered critical injuries in a helicopter crash on a remote Riverina sheep station on Friday and his life support was turned off on Monday morning.

The Griffith-based pilot, who grew up in Condobolin, was aerial spraying when he hit power lines on a property north-east of Conargo.

His mother, Jill Slennett, took to social media to share the news of his death.

"Dan, Condo, Chopper Dan, Uncle Dan, cousin Dan, Danny Boy, Darling Dan, Dan the Man, my son, my brother," she wrote.

"Passed away peacefully today the 3rd of August 2020 at 9:39 after his life support was turned off at the Royal Melbourne hospital.

"He passed away in the arms of Rose Wilcox, daughter of Gerry Wilcox, who bravely stood in for our family due to COVID to be with Dan, hold his hand, stroke his brow, hug him and kiss his forehead."

Tributes flow online

Tributes have flowed on social media for the pilot, including from the Carrathool Jockey Club.

"Condo was always involved in the Carrathool Races, whether it be behind the scenes or on," the club wrote.

"A committee member, good friend and good bloke.

"We will miss him dearly."

Friends commented about his contributions to the community.

"RIP Condo, Carrathool will not be the same. Thanks for the laughs and fond memories over the years," Boo Harvey posted.

"You truly made an impact within our village in your short life," Angela Masters said.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau sent a team of safety investigators to the site on Saturday morning.
