Chonburi back on top after big victory over Khon Kaen

Chonburi's Danilo Alves scores a penalty against Khon Kaen on Sunday night.

Chonburi registered their seventh victory in eight games to reclaim top spot in Thai League 1 on Sunday night.

Danilo Alves (7 minutes, penalty), Yoo Byung-Soo (61) and Kritsada Kaman (80) scored to give the Sharks a convincing 3-0 win at Khon Kaen United, who played almost the entire second half with 10 men.

Chonburi with 21 points are one point ahead of Buriram United.

Meanwhile, third-placed Bangkok United kept pace with Chonburi and Buriram following a 4-2 home victory over Chiang Rai United last night.

The Angels -- who had goals from Rungrat Poomjanthuek, Willen Mota, Heberty Fernandes and Thitiphan Puangchan -- have 17 points but have a game in hand.

Felipe Amorin and Sanukran Thinjom scored for the Beetles.

Elsewhere, hosts Lampang shocked Nakhon Ratchasima 2-1.

Earlier on Saturday night, BG Pathum United were handed a shock 1-0 defeat by Nongbua Pitchaya.

Jiraphan Pasukkhan beat an off-side trap after 69 minutes to net the winner and hosts Nongbua sealed three points for the first time this season.

Pathum coach Makoto Teguramori said: "Nongbua fought until the last minute. But we were left with 10 men and that made the difference."

Pathum's Jakkrapan Praisuwan was sent off 10 minutes after the break for a foul that prevented Lersan Tiemrat from scoring for the hosts.

In another game on Saturday night, Police Tero also claimed their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory at PT Prachuap.
