Chocolate sprouts are back and they're cheaper than last year

Hate sprouts? Well, a universally appealing version of the Christmas Day staple is back and buyers can make a saving on last year.

When chocolate sprouts which looked realistic enough to fool vegetable-haters first made an appearance for the 2017 festive season, they went down a treat with those who get tend to grumpy about greens and are particularly sniffy about the little green addition to their Christmas lunch plate.

And this year the Find Me a Gift website, which prides itself on offering unusual presents, is selling them once more, currently for a reduced price of £8.99 compared to the full price of £12.99 and £1 off its best price of last year.

For those looking for the answer to the annual conundrum of whether to go the whole hog for dinner this year, sprouts that look the part but very definitely aren't could certainly trick the casual viewer that you're paying your annual respects to the humble veg -  although you might not really want to pile them on top of your turkey and gravy.

Stores such as Tesco and Sainsbury's have also started selling chocolate sprouts while among customers who bought the version at Find Me a Gift have was one who described them as "surprisingly realistic with a rich and deep chocolate flavour" and another said "looked like the real thing and tasted great".

Besides looking the part, that unfortunately is where the similarities with the much-maligned vegetables ends -as the new chocolate sprouts have none of the vitamins and, as you’d imagine, lots more calories.

The solid white chocolates, which come with a green tint and realistic leaf-like folds, will no doubt bring a smile to the face of those who resent the traditional annual appearance of the Christmas dinner staple and they will please anyone with a sweet tooth. And you might well find your kids trying to pull a fast one on Christmas Day.

Handmade in the UK from Belgian chocolate, the White Chocolate Sprouts come in a set of eight which the company says would make a perfect fun gift or stocking filler for vegetable-haters over festive season.

The treats are not, however, suitable for those with a nut allergy and they also contain milk and soya.

They have a shelf life of up to six months so you can eke out the joke - if you can resist eating them all.

A spokesman of the company, whose other quirky gifts have included booze-filled baubles , said: "Did we just turn the worst bit of Christmas into the best bit? We think so! "
