Chocolate fans surprised at how much sugar is in a Creme Egg

Chocolate fans have been surprised to discover how much sugar is in a Cadbury creme egg.

The 40g egg contains 26.5g of sugar - a third of the amount an adult should eat in a day and almost the maximum for a child.

According to the  Cadbury website  each 40g Creme Egg contains 177kcal, 6.1g of fat, 3.7g saturates, 0.06g salt and 26.5g of sugar, reports The Mirror .

A KitKat has 10.6g, Aero 25g, and a normal bar of Dairy Milk has 25g.

People on social media have been voicing their surprise.

One said: "Wowsers! That’s ALOT of sugar. I love a creme egg but this is shocking" with another adding 'No more nice teeth for u'.

Joanna on Twitter simply said "Gutted"

Whilst another said: "People complaining about the amount of sugar in a creme egg but don't say anything when they have 6 coffees a day with 3 sugars and milk in it, let people eat their chocolate in piece".
