Cho Gue sung in veiled Celtic transfer swipe as he explains exit stance after 'dedicated' Midtjylland switch

Former Celtic target Cho Gue-Sung has declared that Midtjylland's "dedication" to a deal saw him sign for the Danish side over other potential suitors.

The comments come after his agent claimed interest had gone cold in Europe over the striker and that the Jeonbuk frontman's move to Europe was off until sporting director Park Ji-sung stepped in. Cho was on Celtic 's radar in January after catching the eye at the World Cup, but would opt to remain in the K-League to focus on his fitness levels and pursue a summer transfer to European football.

Following the arrival of Hyeongyu Oh as well as the departure of Ange Postecoglou, the Scottish Premiership champions opted not to follow up their interest in the South Korean international. Having impressed in Qatar, Cho has endured a tough campaign in the Korean top-flight, netting just four goals so far this season - with his club struggling to mount a title tilt this term.

Interest appeared to have cooled in the forward, but the 25-year-old insists he was hoping for a switch to the Danish minnows - who finished in seventh spot and narrowly secured a Europa Conference League playoff spot for next season. Following the deal he insisted that he had picked the club over suitors like Celtic because of their "dedication" to getting it done.

He told club media: "I have had many opportunities to come to Europe, but I feel this opportunity is the right one. Midtjylland have been very dedicated in their pursuit of me, and I am convinced that this is the right transfer.

"In South Korea, I have played with several foreigners, with whom I have always had a good relationship, and I therefore also know how important it is that I be integrated. I have started teaching English and I am learning day by day."

However, his agent Yoon Ki-Young told a different tale - just days before a deal was rubber stamped: "There has already been an offer in May (from Midtjylland), but at that time I refused. We waited for proposals from other clubs. However, director Park Ji-sung talked with the player and communicated with the club."
