Chloe Sevigny

Chloe Sevigny's annual resolution

Chloe Sevigny makes a New Year’s resolution annually to “prioritise” her friendships, because she knows how important they are.

The 51-year-old actress stars in The Five Star Weekend, alongside Jennifer Garner, Gemma Chan and Regina Hall, with the drama telling the story of Garner’s character Hollis Shaw - a food influencer who is left floored by the tragic death of her husband.

Struggling to process her grief, Hollis invites four different women, from different stages of her life, to come and stay for the weekend at her coastal home.

It’s this focus on female friendship that was so appealing for the cast members, with Chloe telling The Au Review that giving birth to son Vanja six years ago means she has to work even harder to maintain close friendships.

She said: “Every New Year since my son was born, I’ve said I’m going to prioritise my friendships. Because you really do have to make time.”

However, co-star Gemma Chan said it's important to give yourself, and your friends a "our friends a bit of grace,” she says.

She said: “Even if life has happened and you’ve drifted apart, there’s never a wrong time to pick up the phone and tell someone you’ve missed them.”

Chloe added that she was “really drawn” to the story because she felt like it honestly shows the bonuses of a certain personal

She explained: “I was really drawn to the story first. I felt like people could relate to something in one, if not all, of these characters.”

“I wanted to be funny, but also really emotional and grounded,. That combination was something new for me.”

While Jennifer added that the way her on-screen alter ago is dealing with her grief was interesting for her to play out on screen.

She said: “Hollis is really trying to push through grief. She’s trying to put it on another shelf and distract herself by making things beautiful instead of feeling what she really needs to feel."

However, "it’s always there, just under the surface,” Jennifer added.

She added: "Playing someone who’s almost giddy about spending time with her friends while grief is quietly lurking underneath was probably the trickiest part.”
