Chloe Bodwick almost quit boxing during lockdown but now the East Kilbride kid is training with superstars

East Kilbride boxer Chloe Bodwick nearly quit during lockdown, but has instead become part of Boxing Scotland’s Next Generation Development team.

The 17-year-old is currently in Serbia at an international training camp, along with four other boxers who have been promoted through the same scheme.

Bodwick admits the frustration of lockdown, when gyms and clubs were closed, nearly made her walk away.

But she believes online sessions with Boxing Scotland were the turning point.

Chloe said: “A lot of people I know had given up and I could understand why, but this got me focused again.

"I worked harder than ever and also had outdoor sessions with the coaches, which really kept me going.”

She’s now working with three-weight world champion Ricky Burns and Megan Reid, who is ranked in the top-five female fighters in the world.

“This is next level stuff,” she said. “To be working with people of that class has been such a privilege.

“We attend Boxing Scotland four times a week and our own clubs once a week. It’s virtually full-time, but I love it.”

Current Western District and Scottish Junior champion Chloe has recently moved to work with Anthony Quayle at Southside Boxing Academy in Glasgow.

Chloe now hopes to be able to defend the Lonsdale Box Cup in Penrith later this year.
