No. 15 maegashira Chiyomaru will not compete Sunday at the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka due to a high fever.

Chiyomaru had a fever of 38.6 C on Saturday evening after the seventh day of the spring tournament, so his stable master Kokonoe, the former ozeki Chiyotaikai, reported to the Japan Sumo Association that he would not appear.

According to an association official, Chiyomaru's fever had reached 39.7 C on Sunday morning.

As a measure to prevent infection with the new coronavirus, the association intends to require sumo wrestlers who have temperatures of 37.5 C or higher for consecutive two days to take time off.

As Chiyomaru's first fever was recorded in the evening, his situation did not meet the two-day standard, but Kokonoe decided to be cautious and have him rest.
