An East Kilbride chippy has got in on the Colin the Caterpillar controversy – by chucking the sweet treat into a deep fryer.
Emanuel’s Fish and Chip Shop was asked by food delivery service East Kilbride Eats to cover the popular M&S dessert in batter.
Pictures shared on social media show the battered chocolate cake, which had succumbed somewhat to the searing hot heat of the deep fryer.
Pieces of the melted mess were available to six lucky punters who placed an order through East Kilbride Eats on Friday.
The cake has made headlines in recent days after M&S lodged an intellectual property claim with the High Court.
It argued the similarity of Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar leads consumers to believe they are of the same standard and “ride on the coat-tails” of M&S’s reputation with the product.
And East Kilbride Eats signalled its support for Aldi, writing on Facebook: “#freecuthbert we took up the cause and we’ve only gone and done it!!
“Emanuel’s fish & chip shop over in St Leonards kindly helped us to batter a caterpillar cake and stand up for Cuthbert!”
What do you think, Lanarkshire? Would you try a battered Colin the Caterpillar?
