Chippy opens for festive party raising £3k for charity

A Highland Perthshire chippy has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

The Plaice to Be, on Pitlochry’s West Moulin Road, opened its doors for a few hours during the annual New Year street party on Wednesday, January 1.

Staff at the popular chippy all agreed to work for free, and all the money made on the day is to be donated to charity.

All in all, the shop managed to raise over £3000.

Ross Wallace, who works at The Plaice to Be, said: “New Year’s Day went really well, it was constant.

“We did really well last year, but this year we have had lots more people coming in, because more and more people are coming to Pitlochry for the street party.

“There were bus tours and people coming from down south just for the party.

“All of the staff worked for free, and every penny that went through the till will go to charity.”

Every New Year’s Day, The Plaice to Be raises money for a different charity - and this year their chosen charity is Mindspace, a mental health charity based in Perth.

Ross continued: “So far we have counted about £3000 in three-and-a-half hours of the shop opening.

“We chose Mindspace because it is a local cause and they are trying to do more in the Pitlochry area, so we wanted to do something.

“The whole day was a great success, but unfortunately I never got down to the street party because it was so busy in the shop, it was just constant.”
