Chipper Club unveils Easter project for your kids to get stuck into

More than 1,750 kids have signed up to Chipper Club in its first week and our adorable pup has been inundated with kids from across the country sharing their creativity.

The kids club, designed to entertain and inspire youngsters at home through lockdown, was originally created between the wars to entertain kids.

Chipper became a staple feature of the Birmingham Mail and other titles across the country and inspired more than 165,000 kids over the years,

We’ve reinvented Chipper for a new generation of homeschooled kids and in Week 1 we set a challenge for children to create their own Smile Tree.

The idea was to draw or cut out a tree and add as many leaves to it as possible. We asked kids to write the name of someone or something that made them smile on every leaf.

Here are some of your brilliant creations:

Each week the Chipper Club will set a brilliant new project for kids that they can do without leaving the house.

The projects will incorporate Chipper’s traditional themes of friendship, helping and obeying their parents, imparting a cheerful spirit and being kind to animals.

Each project will be designed with input from primary school teachers to ensure they fit in with the curriculum but will also be lots of fun to do.

Once each project is done, we’ll ask parents to submit a photo of their child’s work to the Chipper Club for publication online and in our newspaper titles.

At the end of the lockdown period, we’ll send all Chipper Club members a certificate to take back to school.

To sign your child up to the Chipper Club and to the weekly newsletter in which Chipper will set each week’s project, all you need to do is fill in the form below or at this link .

Project 2: Make colourful Easter Eggs for your windows

We’ve loved all your colourful rainbows that have appeared on windows across the country over the past few weeks. They always make us smile.

This week, Chipper’s asking all the kids to create Easter eggs to add to their window decorations and keep the country smiling through the Easter holidays.

All you’ll need is some paper and pens or multi-coloured card, glue and as many decorations, glitter, or even feathers and leaves from your daily walk that you can find.

We can’t wait to see all your Easter eggs.

You’ll need to fill in the form above with your details to sign up for the newsletter and we’ll send you the details for how to submit your project. All completed projects will need to be in by Thursday, April 9.

All your work will appear at https://www.inyourarea.co.uk/news/tag/chipper-club/ and make sure you let us know the paper you’d like your work to appear in too.

Chipper Club is now on Facebook , so be sure to follow your favourite pup on social media for more lockdown ideas and inspiration too.

And for daily tips and inspiration for parents, make sure you sign up to our LemonAid newsletter too.

Good luck, Chipper fans!
