North West Ambulance Service has confirmed a six-year-old girl was taken to hospital with a head injury.

Police say the driver stopped at the scene, and the girl was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Eye-witnesses praised chip shop staff, with one saying: "The staff at Mr Chips did everything they could to help.

"I'm so glad the little girl is okay, it's such a busy road."
