Chip shop blaze drama as emergency crews race to Ayrshire town

Emergency services have raced to Prestwick this evening to tackle a blaze in a chip shop.

Firefighters and police are currently stationed at The Chippy on Main Street where they're tending to a suspected electrical fire.

Smoke has been pouring out from the building as firefighters try to deal with the incident.

At least five fire appliances are at the scene that extends round to Crofthead Road where multiple mercy crews are stationed.

The Chippy posted on Facebook: "Unfortunately we’ve had an electrical fire and will not be able to complete any orders if you have ordered with us online through Just Eat or the shop and paid.

"Please be patient and we will be in contact as soon as we can. Sorry again."

An eyewitness at the scene, Ben Waddell, told Ayrshire Live that fire crews were "kicking a door in" and "crow-barring" the sign at the chip shop.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
