Chip shop and three other businesses caught breaching Covid rules in Bridgend county

Four further businesses have been caught breaching coronavirus regulations in Bridgend county borough.

The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) gave a rock shop, two takeaways and a car valet business improvement notices last week for failing to follow government guidelines.

Officials visited Top Valeting, Tremains Road, Bridgend, and Finnegan’s Fish Bar, Bryntirion, on Thursday, April 22. According to a spokesperson for Bridgend Council, staff at Top Valeting were "not wearing face coverings while washing and valeting cars".

They also said Finnegan's Fish Bar had tables outside the premises and was asked to remove them to "prevent gatherings". Customers have only been allowed to eat and drink outside premises in Wales from Monday, April 26.

Council workers also visited Chips 2 Go, and Rock Shop, both near the beach in Porthcawl, on Saturday, April 24. A spokesperson revealed that staff at Chips 2 Go were "not wearing face coverings when serving and preparing food" while staff at Rock Shop were "not wearing face coverings when serving customers".

The businesses were all given 48 hours to fully comply with the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (Wales) Regulations 2020.

The SRS, a partnership between South Wales Police and Bridgend, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan councils, carries out checks on licensed premises to ensure they comply with government guidelines. Failure to comply can result in closure, a fixed penalty notice, or being taken to court.

To date, 107 premises in Bridgend county borough have been caught breaching coronavirus regulations and given improvement notices, according to the SRS website. Seven local businesses have been temporarily closed. The service has issued 99 improvement notices to businesses in Cardiff and 80 in the Vale of Glamorgan.
