Chinook helicopter makes emergency landing in Wales after it is suspected to have hit power line

A Royal Air Force Chinook helicopter has made an emergency landing in Carmarthenshire.

It's understood that the large transport helicopter is suspected to have struck a power line before coming down on farmland around 10 miles north west of Pembrey.

No-one is thought to have been seriously injured, although it is understood there may have been some minor injuries.

The crew of the helicopter are believed to still be at the scene maintaining the security of the aircraft.

It is thought that further action to deal with the helicopter will be taken in daylight on Wednesday, July 29.

The Chinook is described as an extremely capable and highly versatile support helicopter that can be operated from land or sea bases into a range of diverse environments, from the Arctic to the desert or jungle.

It may be armed and is fitted with a suite of self-defence equipment, allowing it to operate across the battlespace. Chinooks are primarily used for trooping, resupply and battlefield casualty evacuation.

A Chinook helicopter was spotted flying over Rhossili Bay on Monday night:

There have been some reports on social media tonight, July 28, that people nearby suffered a power cut around 9pm, and heard a loud helicopter noise, which sounded like the aircraft might be in difficulties.

It's suggested some people saw the aircraft come down in a field.
