Chinese voted the nation's top takeaway in fun foodie study by hungry Brits

Chinese has been unveiled as the nation's favourite takeaway food in a poll to decide the most popular fast food in the UK

Favourites like chow mein and chop suey helped Chinese food take the title of top takeaway, with customers spending on average £9.86 per person - more than any other cuisine.

Indian dishes came second, while fish and chips battered other choices to take third place.

Research by online bingo site Tombola, estimates customers will spend a total of £10.6bn on takeaway food during 2019.

The study shows that a perfect takeaway is more than just a favourite main dish. Almost a third (31 per cent) of those polled said they would prefer no starter at all.

Different dishes however, proved more desirable than others. Each dish was categorised from most loved (elite) to least loved, (barrel scraping) to reveal the best and worst takeaway dishes.

The poll reveals 29 per cent of Brits are indecisive when placing an order, which could cause a number of arguments with the 71 per cent that know exactly what they want.
