Chinese tech leaders step up push into local AI market

Chinese technology firms are expanding into Thailand's enterprise AI market, positioning agentic AI as the next stage of business transformation.

Chinese technology giants are accelerating their penetration into Thailand's enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) market, touting agentic AI as the next stage of business transformation.

Boston Consulting Group's analysis expects agentic AI to expand the total global addressable market for technology services, unlocking up to US$200 billion in net new value pools over five years.

Jimmy Chen, vice-president of Asia-Pacific for Tencent Cloud International, told the Bangkok Post that the company sees strong opportunities for Thai enterprises to deeply embed AI agent technology into the natural flow of everyday work.

A recent report found that while the vast majority of enterprises across Asia, including those in Thailand, are pursuing AI adoption, 71% still struggle to scale beyond pilot projects.

"We believe the key to scaling adoption is AI built for real-world applications. This is where our focus on scenario-based AI comes in, as we apply AI solutions to practical business needs rather than using the technology for its own sake," said Mr Chen.

For example, in Thailand the company is supporting AI-enabled retail transformation by helping retailers optimise their operations at scale using cloud and AI technologies, making everyday retail journeys smoother and more engaging for Thai consumers.

The company's latest suite of AI agent solutions reflects this same approach of helping users adopt technology in a practical and meaningful way, Mr Chen said.

"In addition, our agent development platform gives enterprises the tools to build and deploy their own AI agents, tailored to their specific business needs and workflows," he said.

As AI agents take on more tasks, the cost of running them, particularly token consumption, becomes a real factor in whether businesses can scale sustainably, he noted.

Tokens are the units used to measure AI usage.

Mr Chen said Tencent Cloud's Tokenhub is a model-as-a-service platform that helps enterprises manage and optimise token usage, so they can deploy AI agents more efficiently and affordably as they grow.

Huawei solutions

William Zhang, president of enterprise business at Huawei Thailand, said the agentic AI era is already transforming industries and rewriting the rules of business transformation.

Huawei firmly believes that sustainable growth can only be achieved through collaboration.

"That is why we are deepening our investment in our partners -- not just in technology, but in shared vision, resources and mutual success," said Mr Zhang.

Huawei will work with partners to help Thailand unlock new waves of opportunity for businesses they serve, he said.

Tony Wu, vice-president of computing marketing and solution sales at Huawei, said the company had unveiled a new generation of AI computing infrastructure products for Thailand.

Huawei has launched digital and AI industry solutions, an initiative aimed at helping Huawei and its partners jointly develop market-ready AI solutions for government public services, finance, healthcare and education.

Alibaba Cloud models

Alibaba Cloud has unveiled a comprehensive suite of advanced models, AI-native platforms, and infrastructure upgrades designed to anchor the global shift towards agentic AI.

"The agentic era represents a paradigm shift in how we interact with technology," said Feifei Li, chief of technology and president of international business at Alibaba Cloud.

"We are not just offering powerful models, but the AI-native tools and agentic cloud infrastructure that enable global customers to seamlessly integrate AI into every facet of their operations."

Qwen3.7-Max, Alibaba's latest flagship large language model, is now available via Model Studio in the Singapore region.

The Qwen Cloud Platform is a new AI-native platform designed to simplify model deployment for enterprises and developers.
