Chinese takeaway and Edinburgh institution Chop Chop to close– but you can still get their dumplings

One of Edinburgh’s best-loved restaurants Chop Chop has been forced to close due to coronavirus, the owners have said.

But there’s still hope for fans of the award winning take-away, famously featured on on Gordon Ramsay's "F-Word" and two-times winner the prestigious title of ‘Britain's Favourite Chinese Restaurant’.

In an email to customers, shared on Reddit, owner Jian Wang said: “Sadly, we are unable to see a path to reopening. Our small space would make it difficult to operate at a viable level with the required social distancing and we would have to trade through what we expect will be an extended difficult period ahead.”

Thanking customers for their loyal support Ms Wang said fans would still be able to get hold of Chop Chop’s mouthwatering food, including their world famous dumplings, via a new frozen delivery service.

She said: “Given the popularity of our unique cuisine, we will continue to make many of our most popular dishes available online. During lock down, we launched very successfully a delivery service of a wide range of Chop Chop's dishes frozen with easy cooking instructions.”

The new popular range of frozen treats is a spin-off from Ms Wangs catering supply business which sells dumplings to Chinese grocers, supermarkets like Lidl and Aldi, as well as being served on P&O cruise ships for many years.

She added: “We have had so many good times and so much wonderful support from our members for the past fourteen years and we'd like to thank you all very sincerely.”
