Chinese ships again enter Japan's Senkaku waters

Two Chinese government ships were confirmed to be sailing in Japanese territorial waters off the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture on Sunday, the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Naha has announced.

The two ships entered Japanese waters off Taishojima island -- part of the Senkakus chain under the jurisdiction of Ishigaki in the prefecture -- around 3:48 a.m. to 3:49 a.m. They left the waters at around 9:10 a.m.

According to the headquarters, the two ships entered the territorial waters for the second day in a row, following their temporary entry on Saturday.

The Chinese ships attempted to approach a Japanese fishing vessel that was operating nearby with five crew members. A Japan Coast Guard patrol ship secured the safety of the fishing vessel and warned the Chinese ships to leave Japanese waters.
