A 33-year-old Chinese man died after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel in Pattaya in the early hours of Thursday, with his body becoming impaled on a steel beam above a glass roof.
Police and rescue workers rushed to the hotel in tambon Nong Prue at about 3.30am.
The victim, a 33-year-old Chinese national whose name was not given, was found dead and trapped on a steel support structure above the glass roof of the hotel entrance.
He had sustained severe injuries, while blood dripped onto the ground below. Broken glass was scattered across the area. The scene was cordoned off.
Police later inspected the victim’s room on the sixth floor. Another Chinese man, who was the victim’s friend, was found asleep inside the room. Officers also found several alcohol bottles and food on a table, but there were no signs of a struggle.
According to an investigation, the victim had checked into the hotel two days earlier with a group of friends occupying several rooms.
Rescue workers needed ropes and abseiling equipment to retrieve the body.
Police took the man’s roommate for further questioning, as he was the last known person to be with the man.
