PATTAYA - A 33-year-old Chinese man died after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel in this tourist town in the early hours of Thursday, with his body becoming impaled on a steel beam above a glass roof.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 3.30am, said Pol Maj Alis Puangsawai, investigation chief at the Pattaya City police station.

Investigators and rescue workers rushed to the hotel in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri.

The victim, a 33-year-old Chinese national whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was found dead and trapped on a steel support structure above the glass roof of the hotel entrance.

He had sustained severe injuries, while blood dripped onto the ground below. Broken glass was scattered across the area. The scene was cordoned off.

Police later inspected the victim’s room on the sixth floor. Another Chinese man, who was the victim’s friend, was found asleep inside the room. Officers also found several alcoholic drink bottles and leftover food on a table, but there were no signs of a struggle.

According to an investigation, the victim had checked into the hotel two days earlier with a group of friends occupying several rooms. The cause of the fall was still unclear.

A hotel security guard told police he heard a loud crash, similar to a heavy object striking the glass roof, and rushed to investigate before discovering the victim’s body lodged on the steel framework, shocking witnesses at the scene.

Rescue workers used ropes and abseiling equipment to retrieve the body before transporting it to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital. It will be sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital in Bangkok for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Police took the man’s roommate for further questioning, as he was the last known person to be with the deceased. The investigation is continuing.
