A Chinese man has been apprehended after emerging from an aircraft for allegedly stealing money on a flight to Bangkok from Vientiane, authorities said on Tuesday.

Zheng Xiaobo, 57, was arrested on Monday at Suvarnabhumi airport, the Tourist Police Bureau said.

Mr Zheng was accused by three passengers from China of stealing cash in several currencies worth a total of about 65,000 baht on Thai Airways International flight TG571 from Vientiane to Bangkok.

Police were alerted after one of the passengers, Yiu Yuejin, told the air crew about their missing money. Officers were waiting at the gate when the plane arrived. Cabin crew told police the suspect had been seen taking purses from overhead compartments, according to local media reports.

Police then searched Mr Zheng, found the money and sent him to the Suvarnabhumi airport police station.
