Another journalist has been jailed in China. Ching Cheong, a reporter for Singapore's Straits Times was sentenced to five years in prison following a one-day trial behind closed doors. He had been under house arrest since April 2005 and is supposed to have confessed to spying for Taiwan, though he was merely doing his job as a journalist. Singapore Press Holdings, owners of the Straits Times, had appealed to Chinese authorities to be lenient after pointing to Ching's "integrity and professionalism". Last week, a Chinese researcher for the New York Times was jailed for three years in jail for fraud. (Via AFP.com)
