A glass-bottomed walkway attached to the side of a mountain in China cracked while terrified tourists were travesing it.
The platform, which opened to the public on 20 September, runs along Yuntai Mountain in Henan Province and is elevated 3,540ft above the ground.
On social media site Weibo, the tourist said everyone was screaming when they realised the glass had cracked, People's Daily China reported.
“When I was about to reach the end [of the passage], I heard a sudden bang and felt a shake under my feet."
“I looked down and saw the glass floor beneath me shattered. [I have] no idea why it happened, at that moment everybody was screaming,”
“I yelled out loud, 'It cracked, it really cracked', then pushed the people in front of me to leave. [I was] terrified," the tourist, said according to the Daily Mail.
Management at the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot said staff had noticed some cracks near the exit of the 853-long walkway, the Daily Mail reported. It has now been closed to the public for repairs.
In a statement released to People’s Daily China, the company in charge of the bridge reportedly said the crack was caused by a sharp object falling onto the glass but as its safety had not been compromised because there are three layers of glass.
