At least two Chinese companies have bought bidding documents for a high-speed train construction project to connect three key airports, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said on Monday.
The railway agency said China Railway Group Ltd and China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd had bought documents detailing the project, which is part of the Eastern Economic Corridor.
They are among the 14 firms, mainly Thai companies, showing interest in joining the bid for the project. The winner will be announced on Nov 13.
The new high-speed train line will connect two Bangkok airports -- Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi -- with U-Tapao airport in Rayong. The estimated investment cost is around 224 billion baht.
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has convinced Chinese companies to join the auction.
