Bangkok's urban vibrancy and cultural heritage are portrayed through a collection of new works by a leading Chinese contemporary artist for "Tempered Into Myriad Visions: One With Infinity", which will kick off on Saturday and run until July 19 at River City Bangkok's RCB Artery.
Presented by Xiamen Autumn Mosaic Art Center, this is the first overseas solo exhibition by Zhang Wenzhen, aka CJ Zhang, one of the most promising Chinese artists reputed for seamlessly bridging the rigour of academic art and the freedom of street culture.
When life's refinement and artistic perseverance merge, they create a spiritual force that transcends geography and time. This exhibition marks the artist's first full body of work centred on residency creations, conveying the resilient power forged through years of creative practice.
Inside the exhibition hall, vivid, intense colours and free-flowing lines that reflect the energy of Bangkok intertwine in his brand-new creative texture, where Eastern philosophy and international trend aesthetics collide with powerful visual tension. Every work is a deep dialogue between the artist, Thailand and his inner self.
The art show fully interprets the core theme "Tempered Into Rebirth, Myriad Visions Grow Naturally". This cross-regional artistic dialogue builds a new bridge for Sino-Thai cultural exchange and heralds a brilliant new chapter of CJ Zhang's artistic journey on the global stage.
All the works were created during his special residency in Bangkok. The collection includes two signature large-scale pieces and four thematic series, comprising over 50 works in acrylic, printmaking and mixed media -- notably featuring the artist's first experimental use of mirror-finish stainless steel.
The opening reception is on Saturday at 3pm. There is no admission fee.
