1 Vers la Flamme
The Russian piano repertoire is Peter Donohoe’s speciality, and this time he is playing all 10 of Scriabin’s piano sonatas in a single concert. Accompanying the performances is a multi-media presentation with photos, film footage and readings that place the sonatas in their cultural and historical context.

2 Chineke! Orchestra
The orchestra founded by double-bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku and made up of BME musicians goes from strength to strength. For this concert, Chineke! are joined by cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, 2016 BBC young musician of the year.

3 The Exterminating Angel
First seen at the Salzburg festival last summer, Thomas Adès’s latest opera, based upon Luis Buñuel’s celebrated 1962 surrealist film, comes to Covent Garden. Expect dark intensity.

4 In Vain
Georg Friedrich Haas’s 70-minute ensemble piece, written as a protest against the rise of the far right in his native Austria, has already established itself as one of the classics of our time. It’s playing in London for the second time to give more the opportunity to enjoy this remarkable work, part of which is played in darkness.

5 Turandot
Following on from the success of its Ring cycle, Opera North is staging Puccini’s final opera. Annabel Arden directs a cast led by Orla Boylan in the title role of the murderous princess, with Rafael Rojas as Calaf, the prince who melts her heart.
