China's highest bridge attracts millions of visitors

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in southwest China is the world’s highest, rising 625 metres above a river in Guizhou province.

Since opening in 2025, it has cut a two-hour mountain drive to just two minutes, linking remote villages more easily to nearby cities.

The bridge has also boosted tourism and local business. Residents use 5G coverage to promote guesthouses and manage bookings online, helping attract more visitors to an area once cut off by difficult terrain.

Officials say the site has already drawn more than 2.3 million tourists.

Designed as both infrastructure and attraction, the bridge now features glass walkways and panoramic views, making it a symbol of China’s wider push to modernise rural regions through transport and digital networks.
