China’s Biggest Chip IPO Creates a $500 Billion Rival for Micron as Apple Reportedly Tests CXMT Memory Chips

China’s premier semiconductor manufacturer, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), skyrocketed in its Shanghai stock market debut to surpass a $500 billion valuation.

The chipmaker has set its sights on industry leaders like U.S. listed Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) as iPhone maker Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) reportedly began testing CMXT’s memory chips for its domestic devices.

Closing the Technological Gap

Founded in 2016, CXMT currently holds a 7.67% share of the global DRAM market as of late 2025, though analysts expect its footprint to expand to 10% by 2026.

Notably, Apple has recently begun testing CXMT’s DRAM chips for electronic devices sold in China, posing a direct market share threat to the dominance of Samsung, SK Hynix ADR Inc. (NASDAQ:SKHY), and Micron Technology.

Fueled by global artificial intelligence computing demand, CXMT swung to an operating profit of 35.43 billion yuan ($5.2 million) in the first quarter. However, analysts caution about hardware limitations stemming from restricted access to extreme ultraviolet lithography technology.

Chief Market Strategist Shay Boloor highlighted this specific constraint. “$CXMT has surpassed a $500B market cap becoming China’s most valuable publicly traded company,” Boloor noted. “AI-driven DRAM shortages are pushing operating margins above 70% but real test is whether it can close the tech gap with $MU, $SKHY and Samsung without access to $ASML EUV machines.”

Dominating the Chinese Market

The Hefei-based company launched Asia’s biggest initial public offering of 2026, raising a staggering 57.92 billion yuan ($8.6 billion) after pricing its shares at 8.66 yuan. Upon opening on Monday, CXMT shares surged nearly 466%.

This monumental stock surge pushed its total market capitalization to approximately 3.3 trillion yuan, comfortably overtaking the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to become the country’s most valuable listed firm. Market expert Brian Tycangco emphasized the broader economic significance of this listing.

“CXMT soars on listing to become 50% larger than $BABA and confirms China’s AI bull market is alive and well,” Tycangco stated.

CXMTCorp Lists In China

After its debut on Monday, CXMT eventually closed 465.82% higher at 49 yuan. CXMT plans to utilize its newly acquired IPO proceeds primarily to fund vital equipment upgrades, research projects, and memory wafer mass production.

This significant capital infusion will also assist the memory giant as it attempts to circumvent manufacturing limitations by pushing the boundaries of extreme multi-patterning.
