What’s new: A weekly flight between the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka and the Southern China city of Guangzhou was discovered to have 17 people who tested positive for Covid-19, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
Under a policy announced by China’s aviation regulator earlier this month, the occurrence will trigger a “circuit breaker” that will see China Southern flight CZ392 suspended for four weeks starting from June 22.
Background: China has limited all domestic carriers to one flight per week on any international route that they were flying as of late March, as part of its measures to curtail Covid-19 cases coming into the country from abroad.
On June 4 the regulator rolled out a supplemental “circuit breaker” policy that applies to all international flights operated by both domestic and foreign carriers. Under that policy, flights with 10 or more passengers testing positive on a single flight would be suspended for four weeks.
The development marks the first use of the “circuit breaker” since its June 4 introduction.
