China has set a target for annual economic growth above 6% for 2021 as the country continues its economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, Premier Li Keqiang announced on Friday at the start of the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing.
In setting the GDP growth target, China has taken into account the recovery of economic activity, Li said in the government work report he delivered to the NPC, the country’s top legislature.
Below are some other key highlights of the government work report:
● Narrow the budget deficit to 3.2% of GDP
● A CPI growth target set at about 3%
● Creation of more than 11 million new urban jobs
● A surveyed urban unemployment rate at about 5.5%
