Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the Gulf Cooperation Council to return to "unity and harmony", reported state television.
“Regional cooperation is an important foundation for prosperity in the Gulf region,” Xi told Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Beijing on Thursday.
He added that China supports political and diplomatic efforts exerted by the GCC to restore unity and reconciliation between the Gulf and Arab countries.
Moreover, he said Beijing is ready to continue to play a constructive role in accordance with the wishes of the GCC countries.
During Sheikh Tamim’s visit to China, Doha and Beijing signed several memoranda of understanding covering diplomatic training, trade delegations and the China-led Silk Road Initiative.
