What’s new: Premier Li Keqiang pushed for more entrepreneurship and innovation at a meeting Wednesday of the State Council, where he stressed importance of helping college graduates and migrant workers find jobs.
“Stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation is highly important for providing employment for key groups of people and increasing their income. Competent departments should work out greater support for the employment of college graduates and rural migrant workers,” Li said, according to a government statement released after the meeting.
What’s the background: The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on employment in China will not go away anytime soon, with college graduates and migrant workers among the hardest hit, multiple economists said. This year, about 8.74 million students will graduate from college, according to an official estimate.
