China portals closed by government order

The search engines of two popular web portals in China have been blocked in a sign of intensified internet censorship. The editors of Sina and Sohu are thought to have failed to filter certain keywords that are deemed to be politically harmful. A source said that the editors of the portals were summoned to the State Council Information Office and ordered to shut down. They have been given three days to "rectify their mistakes".
