China's Government has officially approved a new national security law aimed at Hong Kong which will criminalise political acts such as separatism and colluding with foreign forces, Hong Kong media is reporting.
The Government is yet to confirm the passage of the law, but it is due to sign off on the legislation today.
Beijing has not allowed Hong Kongers to see specific details of the law, but has promised the former British colony will maintain freedom of speech, as long as it is "lawful".
Hong Kong media report the law will be implemented immediately.
More to come.
