China issues flood alerts as rivers surge to record levels

Between Wednesday and Thursday morning, six rivers rose above warning thresholds, including the Qiaozhuang River in Sichuan’s Guangyuan City, now experiencing its worst flooding since 1981.

Tributaries of the Jialing River in Sichuan and Gansu, as well as the Hulan River in Heilongjiang, also surpassed historical records.

Region-specific alerts were sent to areas including Hebei, Xizang, and Ningxia, urging vigilance against flash floods, landslides, and reservoir risks.

In Gansu’s Tianshui City, landslides damaged major roads, with 3,600 cubic metres of debris blocking access in Hongbu Town.
