What’s new: International flight passengers, including Chinese citizens, will be required to provide valid nucleic acid test (NAT) results taken within five days of arriving in China, according to a statement (link in Chinese ) released Tuesday by China’s civil aviation administration.
The statement did not elaborate on a specific date for the requirement to take effect.
All the passengers must take NATs at relevant testing agencies designated or authorized by local Chinese embassies. Foreigners are required to apply for a personal health certificate at relevant Chinese embassies after taking a test, while Chinese nationals should upload their test results into a “health code” mini-program, the statement said.
Passengers will be denied the right to board a flight without a valid health code or personal health certificate. False certification or information are strictly prohibited, according to the statement.
Chinese embassies will release details of the plan after reviewing host countries’ nucleic acid testing capacities.
The background: The statement came as China is gradually reopening the country now that its domestic coronavirus outbreak has been contained. China’s national health commission reported 11 confirmed Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, eight of which were in the country’s western Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
