China connection probed after India temple bombing

Police were investigating a possible Chinese connection after a low-intensity bomb exploded in Bihar’s Bodh Gaya hours after Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama gave a sermon on Friday night.

Two other live bombs were found in the area.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to stay at the temple until Feb 2.

Intelligence agencies believe the bombs were planted to create panic among the more than 10,000 visitors, including some from Thailand, attending the month-long Kalchakra Puja -- considered to be the most important ritual of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism -- at the Mahabodhi temple.

Aside from a possible Chinese link, it was also speculated that Islamic extremists may have been to blame for the attack.
