May 16--REPORTING FROM BEIJING -- "Captain America: Civil War" continued conquering China last week, adding another $60 million to its earnings on the mainland and making it the country's sixth biggest grossing film of all time.
The Marvel movie has taken in $155.8 million in its first 10 days in theaters, according to film industry consulting firm Artisan Gateway.
In second place for the seven days ending Sunday was the Chinese romance "Book of Love" from Edko Films, which has earned $110.8 million since its late April release. The movie directed by Xue Xiaolu and starring Tang Wei has now surpassed "So Young" to rank as the top-earning Chinese romance of all time, Artisan said.
Ryan Reynolds fans had their choice of two of the actor's stateside flops last week as both "Criminal" from Millennium Films and the 2015 movie "Self/Less" from Endgame Entertainment opened. "Criminal" opened Friday and earned $7.9 million through Sunday, while "Self/Less" opened Saturday and took in $4.1 million over the weekend.
"Song of the Phoenix," the final film from the late, renowned Chinese director Wu Tianming, rounded out the top five box office performers, with $3.8 million. The movie, about a musician trying to pass on his dying art, was finished just a month before Wu's death in 2014 at the age of 74.
Ending its China run last week, Disney's "Jungle Book" finished in the territory with about $153 million, Artisan said.
