China accuses Trump of ‘bullying’ as trade tensions reignite

  • China issued a strong warning to Donald Trump against reigniting trade tensions by reimposing tariffs on Chinese goods.
  • Beijing, through the People’s Daily, accused Trump of "bullying" and asserted that "dialogue and cooperation are the only correct path" for resolving disputes.
  • The commentary also threatened retaliation against any countries that enter into trade agreements with the US at China's expense, particularly those excluding China from global supply chains.
  • China faces a deadline of 12 August to finalise a trade deal with the White House, or risk the reinstatement of additional US import restrictions.
  • The warning coincided with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Asia, during which Trump announced new tariffs on several key regional allies, including Japan, South Korea, and Asean nations.
