Chilwell pub to close this weekend for a two-week facelift

A pub and restaurant in Chilwell will close after last orders on Sunday for a two-week refurbishment to put it "back on the map."

A "significant amount" will be spent on the revamp at the Corn Mill, in Swiney Way - the first in around ten years.

When it reopens on October 23, regulars will notice a change - with internal walls being removed to create a more open, brighter space and the addition of a new dog-friendly area in the bar.

General manager Jay Withey said: “We feel it’s important to reflect the location and individual character of the Corn Mill and bring that community to the heart of the area.

“There’s something special about the Corn Mill and we hope we can create a space which makes everyone feel welcome - and if they live or work nearby, feel proud to call this their local."

Mr Withey added that there will be food and drink to suit everyone - from families to business meetings and after-work drinks to Sunday lunches - on a menu "firmly grounded in relaxed territory, but with a few surprises.”

He added: ""The Corn Mill is definitely the place to visit when in Chilwell for drinks, lunch, evening meals, grazing in between and from 10am, breakfast."

On the bar side, the pool table is going and a large screen TV for showing sport will be installed.

His wife Mel added: "The place will look a lot lighter - over the years people have said it looks quite dark."
