Chilling moment officers fire paint canisters at people sitting on their front porch

Chilling footage appears to show law enforcement officers shooting paint canisters at people stood on their front porch.

In the video taken in Minneapolis, you can see flocks of officers patrolling a residential street as the city is under curfew after protests against the death of George Floyd.

A resident is heard saying 'they just keep coming' before the officers, dressed in black uniform, start repeatedly shouting 'get inside'.

One officer is then heard saying 'light em up' and shots from paint canisters then appear to be fired at the property.

Panicked residents can be heard screaming and the person filming shouts 'get in, get in'.

Another says "God that hurt" and appears to have been hit.

Reports say the officers are from the Minnesota National Guard and Minneapolis police and the footage has gone viral on social media, with thousands of views.

It has been shared by Tanya Kerssen who tweeted: "Share widely: National guard and MPD sweeping our residential street.

"Shooting paint canisters at us on our own front porch.

"Yelling “light em up #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #JusticeForGeorge #BlackLivesMatter."

National Guard troops have been deployed in 15 US states after five nights of violence and destruction that began with peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd.

Mr Floyd, 46, died after a police officer pressed his knee into his neck for eight minutes despite saying 'I can't breathe'.

Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, 44, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter over the death of Mr Floyd.

He is in isolation on suicide watch in Ramsey County Jail in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mr Floyd's family also called for the other three officers involved to be arrested as they failed to intervene when Chauvin was pressing on Mr Floyd's neck.

All four officers - Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng - were fired from the force.

The three other officers involved in Floyd's arrest have not been charged.
