Chilling footage shows thug making 'gun signal' outside Scots home before 'smashing' resident's car

Chilling doorbell footage has caught the terrifying moment a thug made a 'gun signal' at a front door before 'smashing' a resident's car in Midlothian. The occupant of the Bilston home has told how the clip has left him scared to live in his own home.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous amid fears he will be targeted again, said he heard a loud thud outside of his home shortly in the early hours of Monday, April 24. He checked the outside area of his property but could not see anything and his Ring doorbell had not yet updated to show recent footage.

However he checked again in the morning and found that a man dressed in all black with a balaclava had made a gun sign at his camera doorbell. He claims the culprit went on to pick up an ornament and bashed it against his car window.

He says the incident has left him feeling unsafe in his own home and that this is not the first time he has been threatened in the community

He told Edinburgh Live: “I heard a bang around 12.15am on Monday morning and looked outside but couldn’t see anything. I then checked my camera but it hadn’t updated yet. I checked again in the morning and saw this footage and I was left feeling chilled and scared.

“I don’t feel safe in my own home and this isn’t the first time I’ve been threatened in my own home. I’ve had support from some other neighbours who have provided CCTV footage of the person so I can see if I can identify who was responsible. Luckily my window didn’t smash and it was the ornament he threw at the car that broke.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.35am on Monday, 24 April we received a report of a person acting suspiciously outside a property in Bilston. Enquiries have commenced and are ongoing."
