Children witness horrific machete attack as thugs surround man in street

A man was rushed to hospital after being attacked by two men with machetes.

The thugs set upon the man in Mersey Drive, in Whitefield, on Friday afternoon.

They then fled the scene in a black Peugeot SUV.

The 36-year-old man was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Police say he remains in a stable condition.

The horrifying attack and its aftermath are reported to have been witnessed by a number of people, including parents with young children.

One eyewitness said she saw the man 'lay on the floor with people around him'.

She added: "I was told he was hit with a machete when he got out of his car.

"He was in a bad way and was drifting in and out of consciousness."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 4.10pm on Friday 4 September 2020, police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on Mersey Drive, Whitefield.

"Emergency services attended and 36-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in a stable condition.

"Two men - armed with machetes - attacked the man in the street before fleeing in a black Peugeot SUV.

"No arrests have currently been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8562 or 101 quoting incident number 1985 of 04/09/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
