Children trapped 115ft in the air on fairground ride after it malfunctioned

Two children were left trapped 115ft in the air on a carnival ride after it malfunctioned.

A crane was brought in to help rescue the kids on the ride for the Chants Summer Carnival at the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre, in Geelong, Australia.

The incident happened in stormy weather it has been reported on social media with the freestyle swings malfunctioning about 2pm on Saturday.

One person tweeted: "Let’s hope the storm holds out for a bit. The crane they brought in with a rescue cage has come down."

The shopping centre was evacuated while emergency services attempted the rescue.

Dramatic video footage showed the two children suspended helplessly in the air while two further down were able to be rescued with less difficulty.

"FRV is working alongside CFA, Victoria Police, Worksafe and carnival management to safely return the occupants to the ground.

"Crews have raised a Ladder Platform to the children and are working to safely free the uninjured pair.

"FRV will remain on scene for some time."

Earlier Hearth Rescue Victoria also said: "Crews have raised a ladder platform to the youngsters and are working to soundly free the unhurt pair."
