Children seriously injured after car mounts pavement outside school

Three children have suffered serious injuries after a car mounted the pavement outside a school.

The horrific crash occurred outside Up Holland High School, on Sandbrook Road, in Up Holland near Skelmersdale.

All the children, believed to be between 13 and 14 years-old were taken to hospital with serious injuries, on January 8.

Today Lancashire Police confirmed that a 40 year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of wounding and dangerous driving and is in police custody.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We are investigating after children were injured in a collision with a car outside a high school in Upholland yesterday.

"We were called at 15:34 hours on Wednesday (8 January) to reports a car had mounted the pavement outside Upholland High, injuring three school pupils.

"The 13 and 14 year olds suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

"A 40 year old woman has this afternoon (Thursday) been arrested on suspicion of wounding a dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.

"We are working closely with the school and patrols will be increased in the area around school opening and closing times.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to call 101 quoting log number 887 of 8 January."
