Children's play park shut down after three 'serious' incidents of vandalism

A play area in Emersons Green has been closed down following three 'serious' incidents of vandalism there in just a matter of months.

Beaufort Road play park had a climbing unit that was so badly damaged it had to be completely removed, while a toddler multi-play unit has been damaged twice.

South Gloucestershire Council says the vandalism has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage, and has led to the site being closed.

A statement by the council reads: "There have been three serious incidents of vandalism at Beaufort Road play area in Emersons Green since December.

"A climbing unit has been so badly damaged it had to be completely removed and the toddler multi-play unit has been damaged twice. The vandalism has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and has led to us having to close the site.

"Funding is available to repair and replace equipment, but the vandalism must be prevented before this can happen."

The council is urging anyone who might see damage to play equipment to report it.

"If you see damage to play equipment, graffiti or other issues in our play areas, please let us know at www.southglos.gov.uk/reportit.

"If you see any criminal activity such as vandalism or theft, please report it to the Police using 101 or 999."
